This course is designed to explore principles of AM and FM receiving and transmitting with emphasis on networks, filters and antennas.

Upon the completion of this course the student will be able to:

  • Describe the fundamentals of conventional analog radio communications
  • Describe the principles of frequency generation
  • Evaluate amplitude modulation transmission and reception
  • Discuss the principles of phase locked loops and frequency synthesizers
  • Evaluate the operation of single sideband communications systems
  • Understand of angle modulation receivers and systems

This distance learning course consists of seven study guide assignments. Each study guide requires you to read chapters, or portions thereof, and to answer questions based on the assigned readings. 

Wherever it is deemed necessary, your instructor provides additional discussion regarding the reading assignments in your study guide.


Master the concepts presented within each reading assignment.  Solve all odd numbered problems in chapters 1 through 8.

Students are required to complete all Performance Requirements above.  Each of the seven assignments concludes with an examination comprising of a multiple-choice test. The assignment examinations are open book.
