Quick Learning Series: Reactor and Mental Ray for Max
This affordable self-paced CD course uses a step-by-step learning approach and teaches world class simulation through high resolution video tutorials.
Reactor® is a 3D Studio Max® add-on that allows easy control to animators and artists to implement complex physical scenes.
Reactor supports fully integrated rigid and soft body dynamics, cloth simulation and fluid simulation.
It can simulate constraints and joints for articulated bodies. It can also simulate physical behaviors such as wind and motors. You can use all of these features to create rich dynamic environments.
Mental Ray® is a world class rendering engine from Mental Images® which creates images of extremely high quality and is an ideal solution used on both multiprocessor machines and across networks of machines. Mental Ray® uses Photon Map and supports caustics and global illumination.
Learning Topics
Collusion and Simulation
This section will introduce people with the working of reactor inside 3D Studio Max. This introductory video will also help in understanding the working concept of collusion & simulation
Cloth Simulation
The cloth object help in creating cloth with reactor. This section will teach creating basic cloth and doing the simulation. This will also cover the techniques to attaching cloth object with secondary object and using Air object with Cloth.
Motor Simulation
Motor helps in apply a turning force to non-fixed rigid body objects in a scene. One can specify the target angular velocity and the maximum angular impulse for the motor object. This exercise will show how you can use motor object with Reactor inside 3D Studio Max.
Rope Simulation
The rope is a simple one dimensional deformable object or body. We can use ropes object to show hairs, ropes itself, grass or strings etc. This exercise will show how you can use rope object with Reactor inside 3D Studio Max.
Spring Simulation
The spring object helps in specifying spring between two rigid body objects. The spring will always exert forces on the attached bodies in an attempt to maintain its rest length. This exercise will show how you can use spring object with Reactor inside 3D Studio Max.
Toy Car Simulation
The toy car object is a very fast and impressive way to represent and simulate a 3d model (any vehicle) with multiple wheels. This helps in specifying a chassie object as well as wheels for for your car and one can play with properties which helps in moving object with a specific speed in X/Y/Z direction. This exercise will show how you can use toy car object with Reactor inside 3D Studio Max.
Water Simulation
The water object in reactor allows to simulate the behavior of a water surface. Objects can interact with the water in physically realistic ways. This exercise will show how you can use water object with Reactor inside 3D Studio Max.
Fracture Simulation
The The fracture feature simulates the breaking of a rigid body into a number of smaller pieces as the result of an impact or motion. The user always need to supply the pieces that are glued together to create the whole object. The pieces you supply will not be broken into smaller pieces. This is known as "pre-fracturing".
Soft Body Simulation
Soft Bosy let you turn a rigid body object into a deformable object which can be bent and squashed during the simulation.
