Small Engines Part 1 Course
This tutorial compares and contrasts two-cycle versus four-cycle theory and operation. The student gains an understanding of two- and four-cycle engines, and the parts that make up each type of engine.
At the end of the two-cycle discussion, the student is given control of a 3-D animated two-cycle engine. The student can adjust speed from complete stop to full speed at any point throughout the cycles. This allows students to observe in slow motion how each facet of an engine cycle supports the next.
In other lessons, the student looks at the individual parts of both engines: valves, pistons, ports, crankshafts, etc. In the section on ignition, the student sees both a schematic diagram of an ignition system and then the actual parts of the same system in video clips.
