This CD-ROM is designed for the student who is new to small engine repair, or has gained some skill through practical experience and would like to learn the underlying theory. 

This program makes extensive use of 3-D animation and allows students to see individual parts and their interaction in ways that are not possible with any other format. These animations are contrasted with video footage from TV Ontario’s excellent small engine repair series. 

Both the video footage and the animations contain cut-away sections of engines, which allows students to see the internal workings of small engines. These features not only give the student a visual understanding of small engine theory and design, but also teach important safety and repair techniques that save time and money. 

Each program comes equipped with an interactive toolbox. By opening a drawer and clicking on a tool, the student sees the tool, the name of the tool, and its use. This gives students who have not had the opportunity to use hand tools a head start before entering the shop. Each CD also has a very good introductory section on fasteners and threads. 

A glossary is provided in each program that also contains two specialized calculators: the engine displacement calculator, and the compression ratio calculator. These allow students to see firsthand how small changes in engine design affect final engine performance. 

A basic shop safety section is included where there is a matching exercise to reinforce good safety practices. A bookmarking feature is also provided, enabling students to choose between picking up where they left off, or going back to review any section. 

A test bank of 60 to 80 test questions is included in each program, and the CD records student scores to a single file.
